A move to the Hudson Valley from New York City by a designer-contractor couple created the opportunity for a collaboration on an energy-efficient three-bedroom, two-bath home built from the ground up.
This ridge side forest property — the first structure on this land — required the development of essential infrastructure, including a road, septic well, and electricity. An all-electric sustainable home design included highly insulated and airtight construction and leveraged simple surfaces, triple-paned windows, sliding doors and skylights to make the natural surroundings a focal point. Cedar siding and a corrugated metal roof provided countryside context.
